OFFICE 2003 TO 2007

Hello friends, my WinXP Home pc has Office 2003, not 2007. I need to have 2007 to be able to open 2007 documents. Is there an upgrade path from Office 2003 to 2007, or I will need to get 2007, uninstall 2003 and do a complete install of 2007? Please advise. Thanks.

Gengiscant is right: I use Office 2003 at home and at work and, having installed the Compatibility Pack, never have any problems opening Word, Excel or PowerPoint files from Office 2007 users.

Pervious posters are correct if you only want to do “simple” things with documents. If you want to move to the more “advanced” features of later versions of Office you obviously have to upgrade. Of course, you will find many divergent opinions as to whether “latest” means “better” and only you can decide on that.

If you do decide to upgrade, I would jump straight to Office 2010. IMO it is much better than 2007 (again, many may disagree).

Depending on how you install you can either replace an earlier version, or keep it along with the latest; this can be useful if you need to check backwards compatibility (of things you generate) with the older system. This is of particular importance with Access and anything using code. Simple documents should be OK via the Compatibly Pack, which is where this discussion started.
