could some one advise restrictions with oem disc

It can only be used with the original computer it was supplied with in conjunction with the CD Key. You can use it for repair, scannow and reinstallation. You can`t use the CD Key on another machine but you could use the disc to repair another computer. (Using that computers CD-Key from the sticker on that machine.)

If you have the same OEM with keycode on the side of your computer you can use the disc to reformat your computer.

is a slightly misleading reference to the fact that you cannot UPGRADE using an OEM disc.

EG if, say, Win98SE was installed you could not upgrade over the top. It wont do a format and install either, becasue the OEM is for a new PC, hence New, empty HDD.

However, you can use it to reinstall over a previous installation of XP Home.
