Hi, I want to buy an OCR programme. Do I juat buy the software to use with my existing scanner, (an Epson perfections 1240U) or do I buy a new scanner with this software already in it....Thanks

If you have a scanner but no OCR software then just buy the software.

thanks jester, I didn't know if you could buy it separately...

You can. The ability of the scanner to perform OCR tasks is down to the software and not the scanner itself.

If your not sure what to buy or want second opinions then start another thread asking for help i deciding. Someone might help out by pointing to a bargin!

Buy the January edition of P-rs-n-l C-m-p-t-r W---d and get the excellent ABBYY Finereader Pro 5.0 OCR software free on the cover disk....;-)

Stuartli - you had a vowel movement there?

ABBYY Finereader Pro 5.0 OCR - might be worth a look....

We are on the PC A-v-s-r website...:-)

I've installed Finereader in place of Caere's OP Limited Edition OCR sofware which came with my Agfa 1212u scanner - it is far superior and more versatile, but should be as it is a more recent utility.
