NVidia Graphics Cards

I have the Gigabyte GT220 1gb NVIDIA card installed using Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium OS.

I have 2 spare PCI_Express x8 + x4 slots spare on my motherboard (GA-p55A-UD5) and two NVDIA XFX 8600GT 512mb cards.

Could I connect these two cards in and would I have 2GB graphics memory ?

If yes, the motherboard would then automatically run all of these at x8 speed, would it still be beneficial?
