my daughter is with ntl and was having some problems (not sure what)anyway she phoned ntl they asked her what she was using to protect her pc when she told them one was adaware they advised her to remove it as it was well known to be downloading viruses,i told her as far as i was concerned they were talking a load of mince.they sent her another programe to replace it.don,t know what it was.anyway has anyone else heard of this.

Rubbish - stick with AdAware as long as it is from Lavasoft click here

  PaulB2005 15:55 04 Nov 2005

Perhaps if you or your daughter post the problems here we can help?

  picklsey 16:01 04 Nov 2005

thanks for reply i fully intend to stick with adaware what i am hoping is to get a few responses here to show her the next time she,s over,as she has unninstalled it and she believes ntl,s tech.support(hmmmm)rather than me.after all what does her dad know when a specialist(look upwards)says different.thanks again.

it,s to much bother for her to come on to the forum, she usually phones me and i post for her.anyway she say,s her pc is ok for now.thanks.

There was probably the same confusion about the program I experienced a few weeks back. My dad had been watching a news item about infected pcs and the consequences of adware, he soon put 2 and 2 together and rang me up asking why I'd installed AD-AWARE on his pc, took me fifteen minutes trying to explain to him that it wasn't what he saw on the news item, just sounded the same. Although quite why you'd get that advice from a member of ntl's call staff is beyond me.

i havn,t a clue why they would give her that advice but she did phone them back just to confirm and was given the same advice from a different person.thanks for your responce gome on folk let,s support adaware so as i can get her to reinstall it,believe me it will save me a lot of grief further down the line.

Incidently can you find out EXACTLY what it was she was given instead?

  picklsey 16:21 04 Nov 2005

yes i wiill find out i,m dying to know myself,it might take a day or two so keep an eye on your postings.

De Marcus™

I often have that with not IT friends. adware is often used to mean the bits you don't want where as Ad-Aware is the brand name of a popular and successful tool for removing the former.

Sounds much like the confusion in the advicegiven by NTL.

I am on NTL 2mb Broadband and run Adaware, Spybot, Spywareblaster, AGV and Zonealarm.

The only problem I have with Adaware is the updates. It seems to be a common problem that anyone on NTL BB cannot download any Adaware update until at least 4 days after it has been posted.

Other than that it is running OK. My latest update is SE1R72 but you also need to be on Build 1.06r1.
