Can you boot with XP CD? If so, a repair would be an easier way of doing it.

Do you know if your file system is NTFS or FAT32? If the former, the DOS option will not work.

Boot with the XP CD at the menu press r to get into recovery consul press 1 to log into windows at the prompt c:\ type

c:\copy d:\i386\ntldr

press enter

type exit

press enter

your PC should reboot OK

Try clearing the bios .reset jumpers on motherboard (depending on type( refer to mobo manual)) then set to boot from cdrom .follow prompts.. works on some systems...

NTFS reader download - install -run -create a floppy disk.

You will then beable to read the files on the NTFS HDD. copy and move then juast like the old DOS.

This will allow you to replace your missing files.
