Norton will not auto protect

My wife called my atention to the fact that a mesage box cept poping up infofming that virus protection was switched off no matter how I try I can't get auto protect to work. I rolled back 2 days to no avail I have ran spybot and adaware
but still the prob pesists the popup pops up every 10 seconds. Has anybody any ideas

Which version?

Norton Anti-virus, Internet Security, SystemWorks?

I should have mentioned I am using Norton anti virus 2004 fully updated on a XP pro p4 2.2 with a gig of ram on a Tiscali Broadband

Your subscription has not run out by any chance.?

If so use the uninstall tool from the symantec website, to uninstall Norton, and use one of the following.

Joe R your the man, I folllowed your first link and ip payed off. A couple of things had the tick removed from the start up tab, How this could have hapened I don't now. I wonder if it could have been a hackers trick?
