Norton and SP3

A friend of mine has been advised by Windows Update to download SP3. He has Norton. Have the conflicts reported in May 2008 now been fixed so that SP3 installation is now safe?

I don`t know if it can be fixed, mainly because SP3 needs to change some files but some AV progs are designed to prevent files being changed.

A sort of being between a rock and a hard place situation. The (guarded) advice from Ms is still to temporarily disable your AV though Norton is not mentioned specifically:

disable Norton before SP3 install.

activate again after install thats what i did & went OK.

Many thanks to you both. Have sent the MS article to him and hope all will be OK. Will mark as resolved.
