Norton Software- Max activations no. reached.

  Dave21 12:47 07 Sep 2004

I have been running Norton Antivirus and Firewall 2004 for a while. On installing it recently onto a reformated hard drive I was told that I had reached the number of maximum activations for the products- and thus cannot activate the software. After 15 days without activation it will become inactive.
I suspect that having installed it a number of times on the same machine it may be an anti-piracy measure. Anyone had similar problems and know a way round it.
I have the CD version, not the downloadable version.

Assuming that this is a piracy protection measure then no one on this forum can tell you how to circumvent such protection.

The alternative free versions:

Zone Alarm (3,633K) click here

AVG click here Excellent antivirus with regular updates.

someone else had this in the forum a while back, they had to phone symantec at maidenhead to re activate it.

Ooops just noticed it was your original question yesterday.

Sorry Lionheart- that was me asking the same question in another forum- but didn't get much response. So I am trying in here instead.

click here Have a read similar problem but with downloadable version, but it do's mention the CD copy, just watch out for the phone charges if you have to contact them.

I had this problem. I phoned the customer service number given in the manual. The operator gave me a simple fix but I can't remember what it was. It worked and I had no further problems. This is not a chargeable phone line except for the normal BT call charge.

Thanks guys- looks like it is solvable if I find the correct phone number for Norton.
