win xp pro sp2
Comp working ok.
Loaded system works 2006.
It now takes 45 mins to get to desktop. tried the fix from symantec, ref selective start up, no diference. tried restore, no difference. attempted to remove system works but can't get to add/remove programmes. I can get to windows explorer in safe mode, but it takes 1 hour to get there.
Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Wow - that's a bad case.

Have you got a backup of your data? If so, a clean install of XP would be best.

Install a free AV program such as Avast;; a few free malware checkers and a decent firewall such as Kerio / ZoneAlarm.

These, together with a regular clean up routine will do all that Norton does.

Then call symantec and take up their 30 day refund on unwanted products.

Once in Safe Mode try uninstalling Norton.Ive had plenty of problems in the past with norton and always go back to AVG anti virus,Zonealarm firewall, with all the recommended programs:

MS ANTISPY...Now Defender

Everything ive suggested is Free and can be found via google search.
Can provide the links if required Compy.

Thanks for the info. I am sitting here patently waiting for the tree to expand in win explorer so that i can get to norton.( 40 mins so far).if that fails it's a fresh install.
Thanks again for the help.
