Norton AV what should I do??

I purchased Norton system works 2002 three years ago, I have renewed my contract for the past two years, now my contract is up again at the end of this month.
I have always just upgraded my present 2002 software this will cost now €25, or I could upgrade to Norton 2004 for €45, the only difference as far as I can see is the Deep Scanning facility on 2004.
My question is, do I go for the 2002 upgrade or the 2004 for more money, or do I ditch Norton altogether, and go for another A/V system thats not as expensive (or free). I have never had any problems with Norton except that it is becoming a little expensive now.
I look forward to your valued comments.

Personally, I would ditch Norton and go for a freebie such as AVG. It's updated regularly.

I've used Norton since 2000 and like you have just renewed rather than upgrade. When my current subscription expires in February I will go for something different. Don't think Norton is really anything special now.

I've used AVG for ages now and it certainly picks up viruses. I did an online check with PC Cillin and they confirmed my PC as virus free.

I would keep the 2002 if I was you....

2004 has a performance hit on users machines.

Thank you for all your comments, I am tied between keeping my 2002 Norton and paying for the latest update, or converting to the ESET NOD32.
Is anyone using the NOD, and what do you think of it????
