norton antivirus and instant messenger

every few minutes i am getting the message

norton antivirus was unable to start the instant messenger scanner.
it will be unable to scan instant messenger downloads for infections.

i cannot see where or how to turn the message off.
can anyone help?

Its in the options.

I installed Norton on a PC and got this too. I think it becasue you either have an old version of IM or you need to install Norton before IM.

I think you click options at the top and then look down the left for Instant Messaging or simalar. When you find it you'll see the option to disable it on the right.

instant messenger is there, but there's nothing about disabling it, all there is is the choice of messenger you use for norton to scan it, i have none ticked and i'm still getting the pop up message

If you go into options in NAV Then on the left-hand side you will see Instant Messenger.

thanks guys, finely found it and turned it off.
