Non- functioning computer

I have been clearing an old computer ready for sale.

Suddenly, the BIOS cannot find any of my drives - they are all bracketed out.

Of course, the machine will not start, but cycles through all the non-available drives/usbs.

Please tell me that this is only the motherboard battery failing?
If not, any other ideas, please?

Does the bios clock have the the correct time and date? If not set it, turn the pc off after saving settings and turn off with mains unplugged for an hour and then see if it has kept time, if not you know its the battery
