Non booting PC

  Skoda11 15:29 11 Jan 2006

Windows XP. NTFS file system. Mesh computers recovery disc.
PC will only start with recovery disc inserted.
On normal start-up -'Press F10 for recovery' then -'Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart'-'NTLDR is missing'-repeats.
With Recovery Disc inserted, after 'Press any key to boot from the CD' and without pressing any key, start-up proceeds as normal.
Have copied ntldr and files from the recovery CD to the root directory, but the problem remains.
Have checked security of hard drive connections.
Boot.ini file reads--

[boot loader]

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /noguiboot

Is this correct?

Have you any other suggestions of action I can take (with my limited ability) to cure this fault?
The problem seemed to stem from when I inserted a flash drive into the USB port to back up my flies in M/S Money program,
when the PC stopped responding to any input, and had to be switched off.

Hope someone can come up with a cure.
Thank you in anticipation,
