Non 0845 ISP???

  cbr keith 16:26 22 May 2004

I am looking to use a mobile phone to connect to the internet using my free minutes with a "3" video mobile. My problem is I can't use my free minutes dialing non-geographical phone numbers (e.g. 0845, 0870)
Does anyone know of an ISP who have a "normal" dial-up phone number (i.e. area code & number), not an 0845 number?
I would greatly appreciate any ideas you may have.

Why would you want to do that anyway?!

Isn't your phone already connected by GPRS or WAP or 3? Why don't you just use the Always On connection of your phone to access the internet? I do that on my Sagem MyV65. I connect it by IR to the laptop, then on the laptop I have installed an internet connection which uses the GPRS on my phone. I installed this connection by using the setup disc provided with my phone. I do not need to dial any other numbers such as 0845.

The point is that if you use your GPRS/WAP/3 connection, you have to pay for the data transfer. cbr keith's point was that he wanted to use his free minutes on his mobile.

cbr keith, I used to be able to do what you're asking to do through my vizzavi account, which was part of Vodafone. Unfortunately that was stopped (probably because folk were doing what you're wanting to do!).

I shall follow this thread with interest, as I'm presently paying for my mobile surfing...

Thanks all for the info. I'll let you know how I get on...

Sorry for the delay getting back to you, I've had to do some serious digging...
Unfortunately the list from Santos7 wasn't any help as the isp's listed either don't exist anymore or have changed to 0845 numbers.
Also "3" don't support WAP(!), this is the response from them:-
"In response to your query we do not support WAP at this time and we currently have no plans to allow internet connection through our handsets.
The only data that can currently be downloaded to the handset over the network is content from the 3 browser, which can be found by pressing the Triangle Key on the handset."
That's that idea out the window then!
The only ISP i found with a landline no. is Claranet (click here). You can set up a free trial account then change from the 0845 no. to a london no. (0207 9066161 or 0207 9055151). May be worth a try...

but I'm sure that you will!
