I use to use an Amstrad 8256 when I was secretary of a local club.

It cost £399 with a printer and the text program was called Locomotion or something on those lines.

Whatever it was it proved very usable, but incredibly slow....

It used to take an hour to scroll through a membership of around 400, so adding new members or sending out subscription reminders proved a frustrating task. Printing was equally labourious.

In the end I gave it up and switched to a 286 that my son had used for a year or so and which, incidentally, cost more than £1,000 in the early 1990s - serious money.
