Partitioning makes sense if you intend to make regular backups of the running system.

If C: is kept well under 10Gb, both the backup and restore will be faster - and the remaining partition/s will have lots of space to store the backups and data chunks.

Personal experience shows no noticeable slowing done like this, while a mix of everything on one drive means difficulty in finding things as well as much longer time for housekeeping on one vast drive.
