No Sound Recording

For some reason my laptop doesnt have a recording device.Its a Fujitsu Siemens,with Windows Vista.Ive contacted tech support,and they are asking for -motherboard model name/chipset/os/audio chip model name!!How can I find these?In simple english please!When I click on "sounds" in control panel,it says "no audio devices insatlled"!Help-any suggestions,plus where do i find all this technical data?!

Right click on the Sound Icon in System tray then click Properties\Recording should come under Options tick the box you want to use for recording. Then go to Start\Programs\Accessoris\Entertainment

my sound icon is realtek-when I click on sounds [in system tray]it has "playback" "recording" or "sounds"...under recording it has "no audio devices installed".Its windows vista-theres no sign of what you mentioned.
