No Serial Mouse when installing USB in PCI slot

Collegue wanted USB connections on old P2 machine running win 98se.
With the Card in place he looses serial mouse.

Sounds like IRQ conflicts which can be difficult to solve. Probably easier to get a PS2 (preference) / USB mouse.

click here for some info re. troubleshooting IRQ conflicts.

Got a serial to ps2 adapter.

will this do?.

try the USB card in a different pci slot, that might remove the IRQ conflict, even if you have to swap it with the modem or sound card.

the serial socket is on port 1 or 2 (can't remember now) goto device manager and click ports check which one is for the serial port, double click each one and check the resources tab to see if there are any conflicts.

check if the USB card can be changed to a different port/IRQ. but the new slot solution should solve this one.

good luck

As paperman27 suggests, try moving around the cards that are there - it can solve conflicts (or create more). Try the adaptor, but I don't think it will make much difference.

He could always install a USB mouse if he can't get the serial one to work.

Will get collegue to your suggestions
