when i click on something to d/l it , it just opens insted of asking me first.

how do i get it to ask me instead of just opening it.

i know i can right click on it but i want to left click and have the choice.

which file types does it do it on..

you need to goto control panel folder options/file types

and scroll down to the extension (file type) that you have this problem with

it normally happens with zip so ill use that as the example

scroll down to the zip file click on it to highlight it

and edit it, and make sure you have the box ticked that says confirm open after download

Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced.....under "Browsing" is there a tick against "Enable Install on Demand (Internet Explorer)? Removing the tick may help solve your problem.
