no internet connection after new build, help??

  rickf 00:07 26 Sep 2008

I have a MSI AMD 5200 duocore m/b. After installing a new copy of Win XP Pro there is no interbet connection. When I look under network connetions there is a 1394 connection or 1394 network adapter. Clicking on IE7 shows that I am not connected to the internet. Any suggestions? It's driving me crazy. Typing this thru my old comp.

I am going to connect up my new comp again and see if I can find anything so will be away for a while. Just one monitor so can't have both running.

Late now so will get back on the site tomorrow. Post suggestions though and I'll get back in the AM.

Go into the Bios and Enable the Onboard Lan that should solve it.

Have you installed the all motherboard drivers from the cd that came with the motherboard?

The lan card, chipset, audio, VGA, etc drivers

Also have you configure the lan card and network to allow you to access the Internet

"1394 connection or 1394 network"

Is for a fire wire connection only

"When I look under network connetions there is a 1394 connection or 1394 network adapter" - that's to do with firewire.

You're 'actual' network adapter isn't enabed/being recognised. Enable LAN in BIOS as suggested & also download & install the latest drivers (should include LAN, audio, etc) for your motherboard. G

Thanks everyone. Issue resolved. The M/B installation disc came cracked and did not install drivers properly. Now sorted after trawling the net and installed drivers.
