No Go Upgrade!

Following a lightning strike, A friend asked me to ‘unscramble’ the the results
The Modem had blown so a replacement –external this time was obtained and it all works fine.
The rest of the machine seems to run OK.
He then said oh whilst you are here how about…………….
Right Ho sez me…………….. Oh dear why didn’t I keep my BM shut
Nothing wants to be upgraded. Seemingly
It is an E-Machine runnning ME
The motherboard is totally intregrated, graphics, sounds the lot.
Chummy has rushed off and bought XP Home upgrade
But it seems the machine does not like it and makes all sorts of excuses.
I am now wondering even if I magage to get it in will the integrated
Sounds/graphics have drivers to suit?

Is it likely that these ‘Cheapo’ machines are built as an entity not to be
Mucked with or am I a defeatist?

Should have bought XP standard version and installed from scratch, fresh installs always work better than upgrades (I am assuming youve tried to install it over teh top of ME).

Has your friend got a CD with the motherboard drivers on? If so then intergrated graphics modems etc should be ok.

You are right of ccourse. but what is in my mind,
more is the fact that as the machine is a single 'lump' and all the drivers are on the
Millenium Restore CD, presumably this means it is a ME only device and XP drivers wont be be avail able for the integrated devices.
So is it worth the hassle?

You may be able to find XP drivers on the manufacturers website.
