New Zealand Government domain names

Does anyone know why NZ Government domain names are always rather than ?

I don't know of other countries that adopt this format, they all seem to use .gov

mebbe gov. is all used up or conflicts in their case with something else/similar?.

It is because Kiwis are unable to spell .gov.

do you have a problem associated with this dangermouse?

I do have a problem with it;I don't like unaccounted anomalies - they conflict with my logical, analytical thought processes.

Oh yes, I also resent having to remember the 't'

Anyway, it's obvious that none of you know (or care, as the case may be), so I'll check this as 'resolved' and quietly ponder alone the philosophy of domain names.

It would be more interesting to quietly ponder alone the philosophy of NZ place names.

I went to NZ once. I discovered there are a lot of place names that start with WH - pronounced F in NZ - so Whangamata is pronounced FONGAMATA.
It's not Whangarei - it's's not Whitianga - its Fit-ee-anga.....etc.

Anyway --- be it Gov or Govt who gives a Whlying Whlip.

well aptly named what a waste of genuine peoples time over quite a useless posting.
