New monitor slows down my PC ?

So I was still using a 4:3 monitor until yesterday when I bought a new 16:9 monitor to play games. And after that ALL the games that previously ran well now have very low fps. Even if I run them with lower graphic and lower resolution than before with the 4:3 monitor they still run very poorly. Other stuff like photoshop or illustrator... only has very minor slowdown Is changing to a bigger monitor really affects performance that much or is st wrong with my pc when running games?

What gpu do you have, and what are the resolutions of the 2 monitors? The aspect ratio (4:3, 16:9) doesn't have a huge impact, but the issue could be that the gpu is struggling to work with all of the extra pixels it has to control? A bit more information on your specs and the specs of the 2 monitors would be great.
