New free AntiVirus

Well new to me anyway, this ones from China and compared with the usual favourites avast! and AVG it's a walloping great 54.1Mb download and doesn't seem to offer spyware coverage, though the phrase "other malicious programs" is a bit ambiguous and may cover it. Apart from that it appears fully featured and gets 4.5/5 stars at Snapfiles. Could be worth a look if you want an alternative.

avast free download .exe is 25.69Mb and AVG is 46.13Mb. Both now come with spy/malware coverage, so the Rising download is a bit top heavy. I'm currently trying it on an ancient W98 machine, but beyond an initial impression that it showed a few false positives and was slow, don't have enough time trialling it to make any definitive comments.

Well after a few weeks testing it out, I quite like it:- plenty of features, no nag screens and low on system resources. Only drawbacks are that the scan speed is a bit slow and I don't think the default settings are optimal, but it can be suitably tweaked once you find your way around the control menu, something which is well worth doing.

According to add remove AVG is 25.98Mb that is the latest version.

I was talking about the size of the download, not the amount of drive space used. The AVG download has now gone up to 48.34Mb.
