New DVD re-writer only workd from a re-boot

  pompyx 09:41 05 Aug 2006

A friend installed a Liteon Super Allwrite DVD Writer in place of his Combo.
His OS is XP Home Edition.
On bootup the activity led did not flash, and he couldn't open the tray.
When we re-booted the light flashed and the Tray opened as normal, and the writer functioned properly.
I re-booted seveal times and everything was OK.
I shut down and tried a cold boot, the problem was still there.
I went into the BIOS and it seemed OK,ie set to Auto detect, exited the BIOS without saving, and as the startup continued, the activity light flashed and the tray could be operated.
The writer only works after a re-boot or going to Bios and then continuing the setup.
Can anybody help please.

Disable "quick boot" in the BIOS and retry.

Have you got the jumper set correctly for the channel you are using

Fruit Bat, I will try that tonight.

Hertz Van Rentyl Yes it is set to Master as recommended by manual.

Thanks you both for your assistence.

Is this the only device on the IDE cable or does it share with something else.

I have googled it and it appears that Winfast calls Quick boot, Super boot are you able to confirm this for me, before I make a bad mistake?

You could try deleting the drive in device manager and then reboot, the new detection may sort it out.

Also try a new Data Cable

Hertz Van Rentyl,
thanks but I did try that earlier on.

woodchip, I did install my burner on his computer and it worked ok, so I think the IDE cable is ok, but as I have a spare will try it.

Again thanks to all for your assistence, it is very much appreciated.
