and thats about it really. i cant remember, last pc i just installed operating system on drive c and quick formatted the 2 slave drives, is that right? i formatted my external then found out there was no need, got rid of the bloatware though!
do you need to nowadays?
surely there shouldnt be bad sectors on a new drive?
cheers.

Some external drives come formated FAT 32.
I see no problem checking for bad sectors when new and under warranty.

Good Luck

A new internal drive wont [usually] come formatted, so yes you'll need to format it.

thanks guys and the operating system install does the system drive?

  MAJ 10:36 01 Aug 2008

Yes, but if it's XP it will give you the choice of formatting as FAT32 or NTFS, choose NTFS. I'm not sure about Vista though, I haven't installed it from scratch yet.

i think that's what confused me the last install i did was vista, i didnt get format option and it kept all the old files on the disk so didnt format. im now setting up a pc with new drives so needed my memory refreshing.
