Network card or cable unplugged

  [DELETED] 10:59 06 Dec 2003

The host pc (XP) thinks the network adaptor or cable is unplugged when you run network setup wizard. The card has been reinstalled several time but the problem persists. The cable has been taken out of each pc and replaced several times also. Any ideas please?

Is it the correct cable? If you are connecting 2 PCs directly, it needs to be a crossover cable.

Yes we are using cross over cable and the network connection has been working fine until recently. I am using 98 on the client pc and recently updated via windows update when several security updates were downloaded, then this problem, coincidence?? My 98 pc thinks it is behind a firewall but the firewall (black ice) on the xp host seems to be set up properly and windows firewall is disabled.

Disable the Black Ice firewall while you set up your network.
