Netgear Router update

If i do a update on my router will i have to put all the settings back on ?
I had Aol help me do the settings on sunday but i have seen that there is a update that will stop the loss of network for Aol users,so thought i try to update it .

You will have a link on your router to backup and restore your settings - so back them up before you update.

Thanks Sea Urchin. I had already done that but didnt know if that would just take the Router back to before i installed the update.

I assume it's a router firmware update. Just make sure it's the correct version for your router. Check what version router you have, some have v1 or v2 etc after the DG834g or whatever model it is.
Always wise to record the router's setting somewhere just in case.
Otherwise you won't need to input the settings again. If the update firmware doesn't work (or is worse) then it's advisable to have the original firmware, saved on your PC somewhere, as backup as well.
