I'd try another Distro to see if it's just your netbook and specific version of Ubuntu that's causing the problem. I'm currently running a very interesting version called JoliCloud which will run from a USB stick so you can test it without actually installing on your hard disk. It's one of the nicest versions I've seen and is definitely 'cloud' computing at it's best. It works 100% on my netbook without any amendments click here .

I only have a ISO Ubuntu disk
It ain't recognising it as the software disk(most likely the way i installed it-Wubi installer)

Linux is very much about using the command line to tweak it. It is not nice and fluffy like Windows and is often very very frustrating.

Learn the basic commands, get a book or find a website that can teach you.

If you look at my link it tells you how to make changes to the video drivers at the terminal.

I did do that but it keeps asking me to insert the disk labled ubuntu 10.10 when it is the disk
and it keeps saying underneath
'90% working'
when it ain't doing anything.

Forgot this is a netbook

The Linux distro you are using does not appear to have the graphics drivers for your computer.
Details of which you have not provided.
If it's old then it's time to move on and forget it.
If it's new (very) then the drivers may not be incorporated yet.
Try another here for a lot of options.
