I have this update. I believe that if you have, for example, a Media Centre Edition PC, as I have, and maybe some programmes like Roxio 2009 , it is worth keeping up to date. Maybe, though, if everything is working, I wonder , too, if one needs to update to it. I wish there were a simple list of programmes that require it.

If this is the same update, it's been around for a while and is 2.8MB:

I have it on my system.

That is a large amount to download, so I'll leave it until Micrsoft show me a golden shield.
I think they'll only do that if my PC needs it.

I've just visited Windows updates and it looks as though we will need to download it. I followed all the details and information about it and as it's primarily a Service Pack, and we apparently need the previous .Net Frameworks, I can't see us getting out of it.

Just for a laugh, last week I downloaded a Flight Simulator, a mere(?) 225MBs. I use Download Accelerator Premium and it took 2 hrs 35 mins. This one is nearly a 250 MBs download. I'm not worried about the disc space, I've loads to spare, but do I need another 2hrs 30 mins of time out of my day just for Uncle Bill to have a feelgood day?

I noticed that Vista wasn't mentioned.

You're absolutely right. So where do we go now?

  birdface 23:04 27 Jan 2009

My download information says 284.4Mb and Stuartli's says 2.8 Mb a big difference if it is the same Download. So not at all sure of what to do.I use XP Home Edition and have very little on my computer so not sure if I need it.Computer is a bit sluggish as it is this may be the final straw.

On my "Add / Remove programmes", .Net Framework 3.5 shows as 25.34 MB.

  Stuartli 10:11 28 Jan 2009

.NET Framework Version 3.5 shows as 28.57MB including two 3.5 SP1 Hotfixes on my system (KB953593 and KB958484).

The earlier versions total apporximately 370MB.

However, we are discussing the 3.5 SP1 update here, not the entire 3.5 installation...:-)

By the way ATi Catalyst software uses .NET Framework, along with some TV tuner cards and dongles.

Using FreshDownload with my TalkTalk "up to 8MB" broadband connection, I can/could download 250MB in approximately five to six minutes.

I work on the conservative basis of two-thirds of an MB a second - depending on the server it can be even quicker or a little slower.

Ok.Bit the bullet and downloaded it.So far no problems.
