Only Mpeg-1 format movies can be burned to VCD. 'tmpgenc' is a program that will convert the AVI movie into Mpeg-1.

whats the specs of your machine. My athlon 800mhz pc took me 8 hours to convert. but my new athlon xp 2800 took me two hours.

Converting the Movie to Mpeg-1 will definately decrease the quality. This is one of the downsides of the VCD format. VCD is comparable to VHS.

Converting time depends on the speed of your processor. For me (Pentium4 2.53 with 512DDR) it would take 2 - 3 Hours to convert a 90 minute movie into Mpeg-1.
