Need .xls reader (or Open Office?)

  Trikie 23:35 14 Apr 2010

Setting up a replacement PC, keeping XP and Works office suite. This will not open .xls files and on the old PC I used Open Office for this. A snag was that it tried to take over opening all documents and the menu screens were in miniscule size text.

Is there a basic free programme that opens .xls files? Haven't been able to find one yet, the ones I've seen also scan for extension errors and then want money to correct them.

Is Open Office still free - if so i could live with its faults.

Microsoft provide an Excel viewer click here which will allow you to read xls files.
Open Office is free.
