Need help with PS2 sharing PC internet connection

Can someone please help, I've been trying to use my PC internet connection for online gaming with my playstation 2 but my ps2 keeps saying "connection to the network could not be established".
I'm using a cross over cable between my ps2 and my pc, my modem is a Thomson speedtouch 330 usb type which was supplied by wanadoo when I signed up for broadband and my pc is about 6 mth old and is running on windows xp media centre edition.
I have tried the network setup wizard and thought I had created a network, but there isnt anything I can find on my pc that says it has detected the ps2 via the crossover cable, should there be?
Also I've been looking at other guides on the net and when I go: control panel, network connections, the connection I'm using, right click, properties, advanced, I get a page about windows firewall settings not the one that the other guides describe with the tick list on about sharing this connection with other computers.
Can someone PLEASE help and keep it simple my head is fried already.
