HP Envy x2 review: Hands-on
Does anyone know why my LiveUpdate (from Norton AntiVirus 2004) keeps getting a “LU1844: While the virus definitions where being downloaded, an error occurred. Please try running LiveUpdate again later.” error message? When I try to update, NAV gets the same two Virus Definition Updates (2 Updates, 6315.6KB) every time. When I finish updating, I get a very odd result. This is what NAV LiveUpdate says about the Virus Definitions in its summary:
r (Red Cross – meaning failure) - Norton AntiVirus Definitions: LU1844: While the virus definitions where being downloaded, an error occurred. Please try running LiveUpdate again later.
Ad they fled down the corri
a (Green Tick – meaning success - Norton AntiVirus Definitions: LiveUpdate successfully downloaded and installed 1 update(s) for this product. All available updates were selected.
The first odd thing is that it claims to have updated and not updated the Virus definition files when it actually hadn’t updated anything (I checked my NAV Configuration which stated that my current definition files were downloaded 9th February). The second odd thing is that it claims only to have updated one file when there were two to update – see screenshots. Finally, these two updates seem to be blocking all my other updates. I have checked the Symantec site and it says that I should be getting some Windows Management Instruments (WMI) updates.
I’ve tried loads of articles on the Symantec website including reinstalling LiveUpdate and using the Intelligent Updater to update but none seem to work. I have a computer-generated list of all my NAV info and I have highlighted strange issues:

I have highlighted SCSS as I don’t know what it is and it sounds like something that I should have in NAV. I have also highlighted Norton WMI as I know this is an item that I should have in my NAV and I am missing updates from this component. I know this message has been long and confusing but please can some computer whiz give some help.
Sorry, this was juast an accident. Delete this thread at will.
Just to say I afraid it didn't work. Plz refer to other thread as I accidentally posted this twice. Any more suggestions?
At the risk of offending Symantec (and any other NAV fans if there are any), Norton is pants. It's bloated, no more effective than free antivirus applications which you can download over the net, and has a reputation for problems. Don't take my word for it. Try Googling 'problems with Norton'. The fact that you have to pay for it is really taking the mickey. I would uninstall NAV. Manually remove any last traces of Symantec/Norton files related to NAV then download either click here which is my preferred AV or click here which I also use (but just as an ad hoc scanner). Don't be tempted to run two or more AV progs in real time coz it'll mess up your system. At least with one of these two, you should have peace of mind.
Have you tried remove and reinstall.
