My PING has recently gone high with Virgin ADSL

I have Virgin broadband service and as of the last few weeks when i play games online at certain times in the day my ping goes from around 30 to over 100....thus meaning i can't play games properly and reaction times become too slow in game.

I have checked for viruses....that is not an issue.

I have formatted hard drive and so that is not an issue.

I have tried disabling some of unneeded services....that didn't help any.

SO i rang Virgin and they said that as of late with the viruses going around the network has been put to its limit.

I asked them how long this would last and he wouldn't give me an answer.

How would the network being overloaded affect my ping???

Would it help of i changed isp's???

Cable broadband is not an option in my area.

Is there anyway of reducing my ping in any other way???
