Is my pc a pentium 3?

  pittza 20:14 03 May 2008

I want to get a soundblaster X-FI platinum soundcard but the system requirements are : * Microsoft® Windows Vista™ or Windows XP (Service Pack 2, x64 or Media Center Edition)
* 1GHz Intel® Pentium® III, AMD or equivalent processor
* 256MB RAM (512MB for Windows Vista)
* 600MB of free hard disk space
* Available PCI 2.1 slot
* CD/DVD-ROM drive
* Graphics card with DirectX® 9 compliant 3D graphics accelerator.

How do I find out the details for my PC which is quite old. Thanks .

Your AMD Athlon XP is a commercial rival to the Intel Pentium series and is better than the minimum required.

The other specs are OK too except possibly.....
The card must fit a PCI 2.1 slot
It almost certainly will suit your motherboard, but the manual should state what it can accept.
Perhaps others can guide you better than I can.

Make sure it is suitable before you buy!

  helen_312 11:52 04 May 2008

Your system meets all the requirements for the card except that there is no information on your graphics card/ onboard chip. Look in belarc for the graphics details.

As to the PCI 2.1 slot. If you have a spare white PCI slot on the motherboard, thats all you need for the PCI recomendation.

  helen_312 11:56 04 May 2008

Your motherboard click here.

It has 6 white PCI slots, any of those will do.

It does not have on-board graphics, so you must be using either an older style PCI graphics card or most probably an AGP graphics card.

Thanks all, Helen 312 I have found this imfo for my graphics card:
NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/ model64 pro

Location PCI Bus 1
Is this ok please?

and then run. In the run box put "dxdiag" without the quotes and press enter.

Your version of direct x will be listed at the bottom.

Direct x Version: Direct x 9. Oc
