is my laptop battery dead?

  LinuxLad 14:01 04 Dec 2016

I have an acer aspire laptop thats just 2 years old and i decided to upgrade the RAM to its max (12GB) and add an SSD, prior to doing this i removed the panel and removed the cable for the battery, put the ram and ssd in and put the battery and panel back in and now it won't turn on without the charger...when i connect the charger the orange LED lights up as if the battery is charging..

when i boot the laptop up, the percentage is stuck at 81% and wont go up or down

I also tried taking the battery out, holding the power button for 1 minute and booting it up without the battery, leaving it on for 10 minutes, putting the battery back in and it worked, but when i turned it off and tried to turn it on again it didn't work?

my batteries capacity is around 96%

any suggestions?
