Multipul Monitors

I have a job which requires several spreadsheets, applications etc open at anyone time. I'm fed up of switching between sheets, apps and programs and now looking to spec my own PC to circumnavigate this issue.

Do i go for a single graphics card with 4 DVI or can i spec a montherboard (something like SLI or Crossfire) to install two graphics cards each with 2 DVI's ( i.e. 4 in total) If so can i configure the system to run 4 monitors from this?

Which is the best option?
