multiple windows opening when on the internet

  handout 14:05 17 Jun 2010

my daughter said yesterday that while on the internet suddenly lots of windows started to open one after the other & the only way to stop it was to shut down, has this happened to anyone out there? is it a virus? this has never happened to me before so I could just advise her to do a full scan with anti virus.any advice would be appreciated

what browser are you using?

I regularly had this problem when I was using XP wuith IE7. Running Malaware bytes & Superantispyware used to solve it for a period.

Now I've upgradeed to Windows 7 & IE8, I've not had this problem.

Hi bigpeta
she is running XP with IE6 still installed. After seeing wids001 comments I think she may be advised to install IE8 (which is on the last few pc ad dvd's)

why not switch away from IE and use firefox or one of the other browsers.
i use firefox and it has an option to prevent rerouting to other pages. also you can instal the ad prevention app. PLus its much safer than IE.
