MSN Messinger / Itunes , Same problem?

  PhiltheFragger 14:06 20 Feb 2006

Have come accross a XP sp2 Athlon64 3000 system
where suddenly both Itunes and MSN messinger have stopped working.

System is free from bugs (at least AVG,adaware & spybot all say so)firewall is zone alarm and that has been checked and even uninstalled briefly.

Have tried uninstalling & reinstalling both with no joy

MSN stops with an error 1603 message error writing to file C:\prog\MSN\Messinger\psmsong.dll

Google and MSN help have been no help at all.

Itunes just wont open, says it needs quicktime 7.0.3 to run, again when downloaded it just repeats itself.

Any ideas out there

1) Click Start > Run

2) Type: msiexec /unreg and press enter (Note the space before the /).

3) Go back to Start > Run

4) Type: msiexec /regserver and press enter.

5) Try the Messenger installation again.

tried that before as it was one of the suggestiuons on a google search,

I have also come accross a similar problem on another PC with error code 1635

it appears that this is a known ptroblem with the Windows installer and Microsoft have issued a windows installer clean up utility

Have used that on both machines and no further forward,

any other ideas?

Have you tried Ewido click here

Im not saying this will cure your problems, but may well clear up any conflicting files.
