MSConfig Problem

  Kobayashimaru 21:33 23 Sep 2003

I have a Windows XP System that is playing up.

A member of the family (who shall remain nameless) has addmitted to downloaded applications from Kazza.

I can't now run any anti virus program if MsConfig. I have looked on a few anti virus websites but can't find any refrence to this as a virus. Can anybody suggest anything.

Thanks K

As far as not running your antivirus from your system, go to the link and have a online scan.Accept the cookie and let it do its thing.

If after that you still have problem you can post back.

OK I've scanned the system using an online scanner, and nothing. Same with spyware and adaware. System Restore is no luck as I disabled it.

I have no noticed that it I do Ctrl-Alt-Del the Task manager loads and the imediatly shuts down.

Format and Restore looks like next on the cards.

Why do people say that its the LAST OPTION - EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have picked up a virus that shuts down Task Manager, Regedit and MSConfig. Almost certainly Spybot.

Boot into safe mode and use MSConfig from there. You should be able to look into Startup list and disable the virus from starting with Windows.

Then search for the file and delete it. Why Stinger didn't pick it up i don't know! Have got the latest version?

Did you actually download and try Stinger??

  Kobayashimaru 20:11 24 Sep 2003

Well downloaded Stinger - Nothing.

Ran the online scans for Symantec, Mcafee - Nada

Trend House Call - found about 5 Worms and 2 Trojans.

Thanks for all your guys.
