MS Security Essentials query

  geedad 13:40 10 Mar 2010

I have just installed MS Security Essentials. Ran it, aferwards it tells me that 'Real time protection is off,you should turn it on'.
Clicked on the rectangular 'Turn On' box - nothing happened!
So it still states I am at risk!
Anyone help, please?

Did you go to the Settings tab, and tick the box there followed by apply?

Have you completely removed any previous anti-virus program you had?

oldbeefer3. Yes!

Sea Urchin
No! The program ( as far as I saw)did not stipulate removing existing AV apps.

I am sorry. I did not scroll down far enough ( I thought that was the whole page) to see the warning. You would have thought that MS would have put the warning immediately underneath the Download Now box!
I wonder how many other keen downloaders have fallen for that mistake!
Just an update to my problem.
I did not unistall any of my (trusty) AV or other protective apps.
I restarted my PC, and when it booted, it showed that MS 'Security Essentials' had installed correctly and was protecting my PC!
Do you think I should unistall ALL of my Malware, Av and other programs, and if I did, would MS SE give me all the protection I need?
Thank you very much again.

No .... only uninstall your AVG anti-virus, you can keep other anti-Malware etc programs.

I use MSE, SAS, and MBAM.

Interesting to note that in my link, MS recommend uninstalling other antimalware as well as anti virus. My confuser seems to run OK with MBAM active as well as MSE however.

Thanks. What is SAS and MBAM?

  geedad 15:29 10 Mar 2010

Just to inform you, I have the following installed.
Advanced Registery Optimizer.
a-squared ( free).
Glary utilities.
Super AntiSpyware.
Advanced System Care.
and Spybot search and Destroy.
Which do you think I should keep, in addition to MSE?
