MS Office will not load

  TonyW2 16:54 16 May 2009

HP AMD 64 Athlon running Windows XP Pro SP3 with
no internet connection.

Having obtained the above, as a replacement for an even older PC, I am trying to install MS Office 2003 from our old CD.
The installation starts and accepts the key and continues installing, but then stops and advises that "Windows files cannot be updated--insert your Windows CD."
As the PC, (donated to our charity group from a reputable supplier) has been supplied without any Windows system discs, how can I get round the problem, or can somebody identify the problem source?
Thanks for any input and any delay in response is due to PC being elsewhere than present access point.

If you have no joy in installing it, then you could use Open Office which every bit as good as MS Office for the average person. That is all I use at home, I have to use MS Office at work because I have no choice and I find it doesn't do some things that I can do in OO.

I run Office 2000 and its a bugger on reinstall.
Which I have had to do a couple of times.

Athlon/SP3 same as you apart from that. Compaq desktop/tower machine.

Try Add/remove programs. Try revo uninstaller.

Do you have 2 x CDs? Mine is.

New student Office version is £70. Maybe charities qualify? Bite the bullet?

Best Regards

Have installed Open Office.
Will leave the thread open as I would like to get any feedback on what the problem might be with MS Office installation.

You need to fit a USB Dongle so it can connect to the net, to update files

You could also try copy CD to desktop, Start in Safe Mode by tapping F5 as it boots then in Safe Mode try running setup from the Copy You should find the Setup file if you keep double clicking until you see the file

(Remember no internet link)
Lugged the PC home, connected to internet, Updated all Windows files.
Still same problem on trying to install but also got "Error 1933" message.
Resolved by following this link.
