MS Office updates may be available

Having received this click here in an email newsletter, I decided to scan for updates (have MS Office 2000 Premium installed) & there were 5 critical ones.

It may be a good idea to do the same, whatever your version of Office, Word, etc. Go to click here & click on 'Check for Updates' to run the scan. G

Microsoft has been working in recent days on an update appertaining, IIRC, to Word.

I just checked and none came up at all (Office 2000 Premium here too). Not sure why.

Crossbow7's own link (the same as the one I was thinking about) states:

"In the Microsoft Security blog the company is currently saying that the earliest day in which a fix will appear is 13 June - three weeks away. In the meantime, Microsoft is adding detection of the exploit to the Windows Live Safety Center for up-to-date removal of any Trojan that attempts to exploit the vulnerability.

"However, Microsoft emphasises that, in order for the exploit to work, the user has to open a maliciously crafted Word document. The advice as ever is do not open a file if you do not know where it has come from."

So if a fix is not due to appear for at least three weeks then you never will install an update in between...:-)

I'll take your word for it about the article - the link doesn't open for me - but Crossbow did say that he found five critical updates for 2K Premium.

I haven't updated Office online for a long time, as I rely on a CD-R of service packs and other updates, so I should be seeing the same critical updates that Crossbow found. Office was last installed a few weeks ago and I didn't check online at that time.

Sorry Stuartli & everyone else, I forgot to add the updates were not related to problem in my 1st link.

ade.h, you may have downloaded those updates in the past already.

I decided to run an update scan to check if there were any available at all. Cannot remember when I last ran one, but probably on 01/09/2005 as there are 5 showing up for that day under 'Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Premium' in Add or Remove Programs. So, I now have 10 updates in all. Is it the same for you ade.h? G

I haven't used the online update check for at least 12 months, because it never showed anything anyway. I normally search the update archive by product and download the full versions for copying to CD.

In Add/Remove, I only have my archived CD-R updates, all of which are quite old. I have had them on CD for about three years.

I'm beginning to think that maybe Office Update is not giving me access to all the updates, but I don't know why this should be the case.
