MS Office problem when other XP users open it

XP SP2 was originally professionally installed for one user. I then added two more users. When either of them tries to use any of MS Office 2000 SR-1 Professional, the 'Windows Installer - preparing to instal' message pops up. This does nothing, with or without the Office CD-ROM in place, and the programs appear to run fine after 'Cancel.' But why is this irritation occurring, and how can I stop it?

Have you ever let it complete without pressing cancel.

Office will run this process the first time a new user uses Office.

I think I must have tried - have a scribbled note of error message as follows:

Microsoft Office 2000SR-1 Professional

Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional. The Windows installer cannot continue. OK

I think it must have been after that that I tried with the CD in place.

If you are getting the 1706 error then I would uninstall in Add/Remove and then reinstall the program.

Thanks Bremner, seems to have sorted it and so much more comprehensible than the Microsoft help on that error code.
