MS 2000 boot disk downloads and XP...?

I am still trying to salvage files from a HD from my laptop after it crashed during update downloads and had a .sys file corrupted. Win XP will not open. The XP repair facility is not available on my restore disks. I have tried connecting the HD to a desktop system but it was not recognised and I am told this is because it is a boot disk. My latest route is that I have been told that I can download a boot disk(6 x floppy) for win2000 from microsoft and contained in this is sys files for XP and I may be able to repair from there. I can't find this download has anybody had experience of this or taken the download?
