My little MP3 player has a lock on it with the sign of a padlock, have you checked its unlocked? Not sure if this would affect it but its worth a look.

Does the computer recognise the player correctly when you plug it in to a USB port.

Any luck about the switch? If not can you confirm your operating system is Windows XP. Can you also confirm that if you go into My Computer that the MP3 player appears as a removeable disk and can you tell me any more about the error it comes up with, an exact description of what it says may help.
