exactly what you mean.

What happens is that when you hit the back button, the page is refreshed, rather than using the cached page stored on the computer. I've tried the same in Opera browser and when you try the same, the cached page this called and the page is not refreshed, so you go back to where you were on the previous page.

That I think this is the explanation, but I don't know how to change the preferences in Firefox, no matter how I look, you can change this in Opera OK. Maybe someone can inform us how to do it.

No, i'm sorry, I can't quite puzzle out what they are saying on your link either.

I have got the Advanced Preferences Configuration tool installed on my Firefox and I've carefully gone through all the settings, but I can't see any of the settings related, I'll keep looking, but there are hundreds of settings, so it will take a while to plough through them.

I'll keep Opera open in another window to keep an eye on this site in case some else has an idea.

Thanks i'm working my way through it to,but like you say it's gonna take a while to plough through.

OK this is what i've done, tools, options, web features, untick enable java untick enable javascript in other words turn both off and go to ebay fixed go back page goes to where you were browsing, not to the top of the page.

Thanks for your help Valvegrid

Well done, remember you'll have to tick enable JavaScript for certain sites, like Internet Banking sites, otherwise the site won't work.

I like this "feature" of Firefox. It saves me an extra click after posting a response on this forum.
