I am trying to move a exercise video from my hard drive to my external hard drive but keep getting the following message.
Cannot copy this file it is being used by another person or program.
Close any programs tht may be using the file and try again.
This is not being used anywhere else and I have also restarted the PC which has resolved this problem before but it still wont move and why copy not move

Maybe see if task manager shows anything running.

Have you tried different methods to move the file. Drag and drop, right click and "send too" etc.

2 suggestions. 1. Drag it to desktop first, then to external hd. 2. Copy to it in safe mode (unlikely to be "being used" in this mode.

I've come across this as well, and resolved it by .... right click the file > rename. Then after renaming right click again > copy > paste where required.

You can then... > right click again and rename if required.
